My new favorite thing is to order the "Demi-poulet froid mayonnaise" with a glass of wine at Cafe Presse. Of course, I can't really finish a whole half chicken... so I brought leftovers home, fired up a dutch oven with some water, the chicken, and whatever veggies I had floating around in the bottom of the crisper... and bam! A delicious smelling apartment and chicken soup for dinner. My acupuncturist was telling me to add more zinc to my diet, so here I go. It's a sweet deal to make soup out of leftovers. I feel as if I'm being fed for free when I do this.

In other news my acupuncturist also told me that I probably have a soy allergy causing much of my gastronomic distress. I cut soy out of my diet and my stomach is closer to normal than it's been in months. I've also lost most of the rash that has been present on the side of my face since last summer. Soy! Amazing that I never thought of that. See you later, tofu scramble! Hello, almond milk. I'm relieved that it wasn't all the red wine! Now I can keep on getting my antioxidants with a proper buzz and zero guilt.

Yoga this morning was incredible and really started my day right! Unfortunately I don't feel emotionally fit enough to participate in the Belltown Pageant tonight. I called the organizer to tell him that I'm a domestic shut in this weekend and am too anti-social to get up on a stage in front of people. He laughingly told me that I was putting pressure on him and making the number of "boys" and "girls" uneven! Plus I realized that if I go to the pageant as a spectator I will get assaulted by Babe for lameing out. Go go gadgets costumery, makeup, and booze!

Pity. I'll be at the Rendezvous!

[identity profile] kellianne.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] skipbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I thought you weren't going!

[identity profile] kellianne.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] skipbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
If I'm out drinking, it's usually on the 2nd Ave. strip. :D

[identity profile] kellianne.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
then why have i not seen you at McLeod Residence?!

[identity profile] skipbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've been there twice, but only when a group of friends are going. I doubt feel at ease there for some reason. My friends usually wind up at Rendezvous, Shorty's, or Lava.

[identity profile] skamille.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
For reals! Let's drink more wine when you come back in town!

Are you living up in the Capitol Hill area? I LOVED that part of town when I visited Seattle. And they had a lot of cool record shops too!

[identity profile] kellianne.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
nah. capital hill is nice but too young and not downtown enough for me. i live in belltown, by the market... which is kind of awesome and makes me never want to see a grocery store again!

[identity profile] hunterxtc.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Is that little restaurant called Sisters still around? It was in an alley just up the street from the Market when I was there... and there was that very cool radical independent bookstore right on the corner of the alley and the market, right across the street from the theatre where they had the Seattle film festival...

Seattle is a great city to just walk around in and check out the world :-)

The only reason I'm considering moving to Capitol Hill is that it's possible to have a car there. Granted, I'm talking like 19th Avenue, but I'm not afraid to walk to shit.

I am sooooo suspicious of soy. I think it's just bad news overall, especially for men. (Phytoestrogens!)

[identity profile] kellianne.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
you know, i have of course researched it through the years, reading all about how westerners weren't really soy-suited, ect, ect, ect... but for some reason never thought that the small amount of soy that i ate would affect me. i was only having it in my cereal or with my coffee... with the occasional tofu dish. turns out that a little bit of soy makes all the crappy difference! crazy!!

[identity profile] hunterxtc.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I eat quite a bit of tofu... we have it as a main dish at least 2 or 3 times a month... I told this to a guy I work out with, and he says the weights are not the reason I have a big chest- it's the tofu! And then I read this...
The covert and extensive use of phytoestrogens (as soy protein) in fast food meals and other processed foods as a low-cost substitute for meat products, may however, lead to the unaware daily consumption of extreme quantities of isoflavonoids by fast food eaters.[citation needed] A research team at the Queen's University in Belfast, in a review article, claims that such intake may lead to a slight decrease in male fertility, including a decrease in reproductive capability if isoflavones are taken in excess during childhood. [17]

In theory, exposure to high levels of phytoestrogens in men could alter their hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. However, studies have shown that such a hormonal effect is minor. [18] Isoflavones supplementation has no effect in sperm concentration, count or motility and show no changes in testicular or ejaculate volume.[19][20] Researchers are studying if these mild effects may explain the protective effects of phytoestrogens in prostate cancer prevention. [21]

(a) it's a good thing I don't want kids!
(b)
i didn't know i had a "hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis"!

yeah, actually quitting soy is commonly suggested to men who aren't helping their ladies to conceive. it's wicked stuff!

as for your above comment, i don't know if sisters is around or not! i'm still new in town. there's lots of stuff over there that i haven't explored yet over there. it's true that Seattle is a great town to walk around in. it's so beautiful! this morning i was walking to the bus from a friends house looking at all the mountains in the distance and thinking that everything was so beautiful it's a little unreal.
